TRODOXHILL, SOMERSET

BARN CONVERSION

  • Planning was gained, via a Class Q planning application, to turn an isolated barn in the countryside into a large, modern family home.

  • Located immediately adjacent to woodland with stunning views across the open countryside this project overcame Ecology concerns by the use of smart glazing thereby enabling the panoramic windows to be retained whilst reducing light emissions.

  • Mitigating principles to retain the agricultural quality of the barn included maintaining the use of timber cladding, upgrading the metal roofing and retention of some roof light openings for light and ventilation whilst not affecting the principle facade expression.

  • Constricting and clever definition of the habitable internal floor space kept the feel “homely” so as to not only have an overly large habitable area that would be a waste of space and environmentally unsustainable.  This enabled additional openings to take advantage of the exceptional views and bring in light.

  • AGM Ltd were also, subsequently, successful in achieving a new access to the property.
