BATH, SOMERSET

The Chapel

The 19th century Chapel with Class B1 use was not listed but considered an unlisted heritage asset.  Converted into a gym, then offices and subsequently following the closure of that business in 2014 it remained vacant and fell into disrepair.

Located in a residential area and due to its poor natural light and no parking it was subsequently considered unsuitable for office use and various applications to bring it back into use failed.

With close liaison with the Planning Officer and by keeping the neighbourhood apprised with leaflet drops and application discussions; AGM managed to achieve consent for a more sensitive, car free scheme, for 4, 2 bed residential units over 3 floors with increased fenestration to the Burnham Road elevation whilst retaining the Argyle Terrace bookend configuration thereby respecting and melding the proposal to the existing streetscene.  Being in a sustainable location, in close proximity to public transport, a car free scheme was considered appropriate.
